Lady Chargers run out of gas against Central Missouri State
Antoine Bell, UAH Sports Information

The battle weary Lady Charger volleyball team simply ran out of gas against 23rd ranked Central Missouri State. The Jennies survived a valiant effort by the homestanding Lady Chargers to earn a 3-0 sweep.

With the win, CMSU avenged a loss to the Lady Chargers earlier this season in the Jennies' invitational tournament. The loss dropped UAH to 17-13, while CMSU improved to 24-6.

Ellen LaFiore led the UAH attack with 17 kills and 10 digs. Erin Denny had 11 kills, while Jane Baumgarter finished with 46 assists. Melissa Feldman also had 15 digs for the Lady Chargers.

Trudy Carter paced CMSU with 13 kills, while Robyn Griffin dished out 40 assists.

The Lady Chargers proved that momentum can carry a team through the rest of the match. UAH fell behind 8-2 in the first game but came back to take a 14-11 lead. However, the Lady Chargers could not close the gate as CMSU came back to win 17-15.

From that point, UAH would be playing from behind. The Jennies took the last two games 15-11 and 15-7.

But, the Lady Chargers scored the last six points of the game to take a 15-8 win.

In the third game, Truman State came out firing, taking a 9-2 lead of their own. UAH never recovered and TSU won 15-5. With their backs against the wall, the Lady Chargers scratched out a 16-14 win to force a fifth and deciding game.

However, Truman State threatened to put a chink in the Lady Chargers' armor. Late in the game, Truman State led 13-10. The Lady Chargers battled back to take a 14-13 lead. The Lady Bulldogs got off the ropes and pulled back in front 15-14. But, a sideout and a double block by Mock and Melissa Feldman put UAH in the position to close out the match.
