Lady Chargers douse Lady Blazers

The Lady Chargers got a little payback on Sunday, sweeping Valdosta State 3-0 at Spragins Hall. The win avenged a loss to the Lady Blazers earlier this season in Georgia.
Ellen LaFiore led the way for UAH with 16 kills and 13 digs. Lindsay Dunham added 12 kills, while Jane Baumgartner finished with 42 assists.
The Lady Chargers controlled the match for much of the day. There were some lapses in execution, but the Lady Chargers never lost composure.
In the first game, the Lady Chargers jumped out to a big lead and cruised to a 15-9 win. In game two, the Lady Chargers nearly blew a 13-7 lead, but held on to win 17-15.
In the match clincher, the Lady Chargers rolled out to a 14-5 lead, then took a 15-8 victory.
Sunday's win is the Lady Chargers fifth in the last six games. UAH is on the road Tuesday at West Georgia.

Junior middle hitter Ellen LaFiore had 17 kills and 11 digs to lead the Lady Chargers to a 3-0 sweep of West Alabama in Gulf South Conference volleyball on Saturday.
UAH jumped out to a 9-0 lead right off the bat. Then went on to win the first game 15-8. The next two games were a bit easier, with the Lady Chargers winning 15-5 and 15-4.
The Lady Chargers improved to 14-11 overall and 5-4 in the GSC with the win, while West Alabama fell to 12-17 and 4-8.
Along with Lafiore, Whitney Mock chipped in a career-high 14 kills for UAH, while Erin Denny finished with 10 kills and 10 digs. Jane Baumgartner finished the match with 49 assists and 11 digs.
The Lady Chargers face a crucial match Sunday afternoon against Valdosta State at Spragins Hall. A win keeps UAH in the hunt for a spot in the GSC tournament.
