LaFiore earns Player of the Week Honors
Antoine Bell, UAH Sports Information

UAH junior middle hitter Ellen LaFiore had one of her best weeks of the season last week and it has paid off big. On Tuesday, she was named both Gulf South Conference Volleyball East Division Player of the Week and American Volleyball Coaches Association Special Imports Division II National Player of the Week for the period ending October 15.

LaFiore’s performance also made her the second GSC player in as many weeks to earn the AVCA/Special Imports Player of the Week honor. North Alabama’s Nesrin Seckin won last week. LaFiore also becomes the second Lady Charger to earn the award in UAH history. Former setter Lisa Spencer won the award in 1999.

LaFiore led the Chargers to a 4-1 mark last week, recording 130 kills (6.30 kpg), 55 digs (2.75 dpg), 21 blocks (1.05 bpg) and a .435 hitting percentage in 20 games. She not only broke the UAH and GSC record for kills in a match (42 versus Montevallo), but she also set the school mark for attempts in a match with 74 against Montevallo.
