Welcome to UAH Charger
Sports Medicine

Jeff Kinard - Head ATC
Carolyn Miller - Asst. ATC
Amy Caple - Asst. ATC
Event Coverage: A Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) will be available during home practice and game. The covering ATC will have access to medical emergency supplies located either beside the field of competition or in the training room of Spragins Hall as well as possess the knowledge and skills with which to use these supplies. A medical doctor will be in attendance at all home hockey games and as many other competitions as schedule allows. If for some reason no physician can be present, the covering ATC will be notified and provided with contact information for on-call physicians. HEMSI ambulance service will be available at all home hockey games. In the event that an emergency arises and no ambulance is present, one will be activated immediately.

Emergency Numbers: At the beginning of each season, each coach will be given current contact information and emergency numbers for all the UAH Sports Medicine staff. Each coach will distribute this information through normal intra-team communications so that each athlete has been notified of who and how to call the sports medicine staff. In addition, current cell phone numbers for ATC staff are listed on the top of each week's schedule posted outside the training room doors. A complete list of all medical providers is located on the training room office wall.

Location of Phones: In the case of emergencies occurring at athletic practices or events held in Spragins Hall, the nearest cell phone or the phone in the front lobby or in the training room office will be used to make the emergency call (824-6911 on campus). For emergencies occurring at athletic events being held off-campus, cellular phones of the athletic department staff will be used to make the emergency call.

Who Makes the Call: The covering ATC will remain with the athlete at all times until emergency crews arrive. The campus police should be contacted first (824-6911) and they will contact the ambulance service. This allows them to be at the scene and direct traffic as necessary.
The event manager will be designated to make the call for the ambulance and assign an assistant to direct crowd control. One other individual should be designated by the event manager to meet the ambulance and direct to the emergency scene.

In The Event of Catastrophic Injury: The same procedure for "who makes the call" above remains the same. The athletic director as well as the head and assistant athletic trainer should be contacted immediately following any call to campus police regarding an injury due to athletic participation.
