Head Coach David Cain
David Cain is in his seventh season as head coach of the UAH women's track and field program. Cain is also head coach of the men's and women's cross country programs.

In his first six seasons, Cain has had runners advance to the NCAA Division II National Championships in each year of the program's existence. Aytree Blalock qualified in the 5,000 meter run in 2001, then, Amy Phillips made the field in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in both 2002 and 2003. In 2004, two more runners made it to the Nationals. Phillips returned in the Steeplechase and Easter Grant became the first sprinter at UAH to make the field. In 2005, UAH had three more athletes to advance to the DII nationals. Shana Levett became the first UAH athlete to compete in at the Indoor Nationals, while Shuneil Gadson and Katherine Herring made the trip the the Outdoor Championships. Last season, the Lady Chargers program took another step forward when sprinter Shana Levett became the program's first indoor track All-American when she finished seventh in the 60 meter hurdles at the NCAA Division II National Championships.

Cain is a graduate of Mississippi State University (Starkville, MS) where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fitness Management. While at MSU, he was on both the cross country and track teams and was in charge of public relations for the M-Club. Cain was named Athletic Academic All-SEC, to the President's List, and to the MSU Athletic Department Honor Roll.

A native of Huntsville, Cain is a graduate of Grissom High School where he lettered in track and cross country. His senior season he was named All-City and All-State in both sports, and finished second in the state in the two mile race.

Cain worked as a Fitness Management Intern with the MSU strength and conditioning coaches. He then managed First Place Athletics, a running specialty store and worked as a fitness instructor at PRSM Fitness Center (Huntsville, AL).

Cain's wife Ashley is also an avid runner and assists with team operations. The Cains reside in Huntsville and are proud parents of two sons, Philip and James.

Assistant Coach Soyini Thompson-Murray

Assistant Coach Soyini Thompson
Soyini Thompson-Murray is in her third season with the Chargers. She is a graduate of Gardner-Webb University (Boiling Springs, N.C.) where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. The Kingston, Jamaica native's main focus is working with the UAH track sprinters and jumpers. During the fall, she also assists with cross country operations.

Thompson-Murray competed for Gardner-Webb University in track. A standout sprinter, she was an 8-time indoor and outdoor ECAC qualifier, 4 time NCAA Division II qualifier, 2-time Atlantic Sun All Conference, and ECAC All Conference. Thompson-Murray was also a member of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) at Gardner-Webb.

Thompson-Murray is a graduate of Vere Technical High School in Clarendon, Jamaica. She received an outstanding performance award for her effort when her team finished 2nd in 4x400m relay at Penn Relays in 1998. Thompson-Murray also captained her team to a 2nd place finish at the Jamaican Girls Championship (1998 & 1999).

In the summer of 2005, Soyini gave birth to a son, Ajani.
