Junior distance runner Amy Phillips is now a lock for the 2003 Division II National Championships next week at Ralph Korte Stadium in Edwardsville, Illinois. She will be seeded 7th in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase.

Teammate Brooke McDaniel just missed out on making the field in the 10,000 meter run. She was ranked 20th in the event. The top 18 runners advanced to the nationals. McDaniel came within three seconds of making the cut in the 25 lap race.

Phillips hopes to improve on her 2002 performance in which she did not qualify for the steeplechase finals. She finished eighth in her heat and 16th overall. Phillips' quest begins with the preliminaries on Thursday, May 22. If she makes finals Phillips will race Saturday afternoon in the finals with a shot at placing in the top eight and being named All-American.
