Perhaps it was the southwestern heat, or maybe just inexperience, but sophomore track standout Amy Phillips had one of her roughest days of the season at the NCAA Division II National Championships in San Angelo, TX. Phillips did not qualify for the finals of the 3,000 meter steeplechase. She finished eighth in her heat and 16th overall with a time of 12:08.90. The top four finishers in each of the two heats, along with the next four fastest times advanced to the finals.

Even with the disappointing finish, Phillips had an outstanding season, setting the record for the steeplechase and joined Aytree Blalock as one of the only UAH track athletes to run at the Division II National Championships.
