The Lady Charger track team had an outstanding showing at the Sewanee Outdoor Invitational over the weekend. Ten of the 17 UAH runners scored in the meet.
The teams' performance was highlighted by senior distance runner Aytree Blalock. Blalock won both the 5000 and 3000 meter races and placed second in the 1500. She also anchored the 4 x 800 meter relay, which finished second.
The Charger relay teams had their best outing of the season. Along with Blalock, Lesley Davis had her best meet of the season running on the 4 x 800 and 1600 meter relay teams.
"One of the highlights of the day was our 4 x 800 who ran an impressive school record time of 9:48.66," said coach David Cain. The 4 x 800 relay team (Blalock, Davis, Amy Phillips and Ashley Whatley) placed second in the race.
Phillips and Whatley also had good days individually. Phillips finished sixth in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:56.00. She also scored in the 3000 meters, coming in fifth. Whatley placed third in the 5000 meter race.
Other notable performances:
Melinda Phillips placed second in the 400 meters and fourth in the high jump.
Natalie Fahey was fourth in both the 5000 and 3000 meters.
The 4 x 400 meter relay team (Lesley Davis, Melinda Phillips, Louise Provancha and Amber Shahan) placed fifth.
The 4 x 100 meter relay team (Amber Shahan, Shaun Neubia, Megan Konecny and Louise Provancha) picked up a point for the team placing sixth.
