Jamie Gilliam, UAH Sports Information

Scoring the fewest goals in a series thus far this season, the Alabama-Huntsville hockey squad was unable to pull out a victory as homestanding Bemidji State finished off the two-game sweep with a 4-2 win on Saturday night in a College Hockey America contest at the John S. Glas fieldhouse in Bemidji, Minn.

The Charger power play got things going early for the Blue and White when Grant Selinger (Regina, Saskatchwan) scored from Mike Salekin (Castlegar, Briitsh Columbia) and David Nimmo (St. Albert, Alberta) at 1:41 The power-play measure was the seventh of the season for the Selinger moving him up to a tie for fourth nationally in power-play tallies.

The Beavers would draw back even at 1-1 before the close of the opening frame when Tyler Lehrke scored an even strengthed lamp lighter at 16:54.

Ryan Miller gave BSU their first lead of the night at 5:47 of the second slipping a shot past senior netminder Marc Narduzzi (Vancouver, British Columbia). Blaine Jarvis then pushed the lead to 3-1 in BSU's favor later in the period at 13:58 on the power play after Josh Murray (Terrace, British Columbia) was whistled for hooking.

Trailing 3-1 late in the second, sophomore center Matt Sweazey (Toronto, Ontario) pulled the Chargers back within a goal with a power-play measure at 16:03 from Shaun Arvai (West Lorne, Ontario) and Joe Federoff (Pittsburgh, Pa.) but that is as close as the Chargers would come. Bemidji State added an empty netter with 36 seconds remaining to round out the scoring.

Dropping their fifth-straight contest to the Beavers, UAH falls to 5-12-1 overall and 3-7-0 in the CHA while BSU improves to 9-4-3 overall and 5-2-3 in league play as Bemidji State runs their unbeaten streak to nine games. Narduzzi took the loss in net with a 30-save performance while his BSU counterpart Matt Climie turned away 44 UAH shots as the Chargers outshot the Beavers 46-34.

The Chargers take next weekend off for the Christmas holiday before returning to action on Dec.29th in the Dodge Holiday Classic taking on top-ranked Minnesota on their home ice in Minneapolis, Minn.

Federoff

The Alabama-Huntsville hockey squad got a pair of goals from sophomore winger Joe Federoff (Pittsburgh, Pa.) in his Charger debut but it was not enough as homestanding Bemidji State scored three goals en route to a 3-2 win on Friday night in a College Hockey America contest at the John S. Glass Fieldhouse.

A transfer from Robert Morris, Federoff wasted little making an impact in the Charger lineup in his first contest since regaining his eligibility. The Pittsburgh native opened up the scoring in the contest at 5:08 from Matt Sweazey (Toronto) and Tom Train (Hurst, Texas). UAH held the lead for only a little over four minutes when BSU's Blaine Jarvis scored an even-strengthed tally at 9:43 of the first.

Bemidji State's Jake Bluhm would give the Beavers their first lead just over four minutes later at 13:46 of the first slipping a shot past UAH netminder Marc Narduzzi (Vancouver, British Columbia). The two teams then battled through a full period's worth of time before the game's next goal came for BSU on the powerplay at 18:39 of the second period when John Vadnais scored.

The third period saw Federoff draw the Chargers within a goal at 17:43 with helpers from Steve Canter (St. Louis) and Brandon Roshko (Hamilton, Ontario) but that is as close as the Chargers would get as Bemidji State slammed the door shut in the final moments.

Narduzzi made 33 saves in the loss as UAH falls to 5-11-1 overall and 3-6-0 in league play while his BSU counterpart Matt Climie made 24 saves as Bemidji State improves to 8-4-3 overall and 4-2-3 in the CHA.

The two squads combined for a mere four penalties on the night including a season-low two whistles for the Chargers. The two squads battle again on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. in game two of the series.
