Charger third period comeback tops Princeton

After a pair of Princeton Tiger goals early, the Chargers rattled off four unanswered goals to go on to a 4-2 victory Friday night in Princeton, N.J.

Scott Munroe (Moose Jaw, Sask.) learned the meaning of the phrase "no rest for the weary." After making a CHA record 101 saves last weekend against the Ohio State Buckeyes, he was put to the test early and often. The Tigers cracked the scoring open in this contest at the 16:39 mark of the first, with Shaun Arvai in the box on a holding call, Kevin Westgarth found Brett Wilson for his fourth goal of the year. The score held through the first frame despite the Tigers taking 24 shots to the Chargers' three.

The penalty kill continued to be the bane of the Blue, as Wilson recorded his second goal of the evening on another powerplay chance from Westgarth and Grant Goeckner-Zoeller at 6:48 of the second period. The Chargers answered on a man-advantage of their own when Jeff Winchester (Dalhousie, N.B.) threw a shot on net. The Chargers crashed, and Bruce Mulherin (Red Deer, Alb.) got the first whack at it. Thomas Sychterz made the save on the inital rebound, but Grant Selinger (Regina, Sask.) netted his first goal of the season cleaning up the garbage and pulled the Chargers within one.

Brett McConnachie (Ajax, Ont.) evened the scoreboard with his second goal of the year after creating a scoring chance and wristing the puck past Sychterz. Mulherin and Scott Kalinchuk (Bowsman, Man.) got assists on the goal. The Chargers took the lead with just over three minutes remaining in regulation when Todd Bentley (Livonia, Mich.) took a Dominik Rozman (Wallaceburg, Ont.) pass and buried it past Sychterz to make it a 3-2 game. Princeton emptied its net for the final 100 seconds, and A.J. Larivee (Dublin, Ont.) made them pay with his first marker of the season from Mike Salekin (Castlegar, B.C.), who extended his scoring streak to four games.

It marked the third straight game Munroe has faced 50 or more shots, stopping 48 of 50 Princeton shots for the victory. Sychterz made 22 saves in the loss. The teams will wrap-up their weekend series Saturday night at Hobey Baker Rink.
