"Under the Bucket" Week 1

Brett McConnachie and Dominik Rozman, UAH Hockey

It’s been a long month and a half for the 2005-06 Charger hockey team. Waking up at six in the morning for off-ice training, and working extremely hard during team workouts. Two weeks straight of “two-a-day” practices, and on-ice conditioning, and now the boys are fired up to play some games.

All the returning players came back in excellent shape. Derek Conter biceps are bigger than ever and Todd Bentley has really transformed his body into a lean mean fighting machine. Tyler Hilbert has battled through some extensive “homeland security” issues but is now focused and in serious hockey form. A.J. Larivee has recently dropped his GPA from a 4.0 to a 3.999992 and is working harder than ever in class. Matty Montes has been a real animal on the ice, almost crippling a couple teammates thus far but we'll make sure to tone it down for the exhibition opener. We are looking like a well-gelled group of athletes that are ready to win their first CHA tournament championship. Even with the loss of some key players, we feel that this is the best team chemistry that we have ever had.

This Friday we open up our exhibition series against the University of Windsor Lancers. With many of our players coming from Ontario, we have been teammates and intense rivals with many of the Lancers, making this weekend even more exciting for many of the players. With so many returning players and a good crop of freshman, this year’s lineup is going to be extra tough to crack. With that, this week of practice has been filled with hard work and intensity. When Friday night comes, you will find the Chargers ready to go, firing away on all cylinders.

This weeks shout outs go to the “Big Cheese,” Jim Harris and to Sheila “Mo' Money, Mo Problems” Ray.
