Munroe, a native of Moose Jaw, Sask., played four seasons with the Chargers, amassing a record of 49-35-8 with a .918 save percentage and a 2.76 goals against average. He proved to be UAH's ironman in the 2005-06 season, breaking single-season records for games and minutes played, shots faced and saves made. He also broke career records in each of those catagories. His .918 save percentage also stands as a career best at UAH.
After completing his senior season, he joined the Philadelphia Phantoms of the American Hockey League, where he recorded an 0-2-0 record with a .901 save percentage and a 3.54 goals allowed average in just two games played.
"A month ago I'm in Alabama and now I'm [in the NHL], it's been kind of a whirlwind," Munroe told the Bucks County Courier Times. "I've only played two AHL games so it's an honor. I didn't think I would get here from there. I'm playing with guys I grew up watching and I'm in a little bit of awe."
Munroe will return to Huntsville next week to complete his final exams.
Munroe is the second College Hockey America alumnus to play in the National Hockey League. Former Niagara Purple Eagle Matt Ryan saw action with the Los Angeles Kings earlier this season.
