Top line tallies three in CHA win

Alabama-Huntsville's top line was responsible for all the scoring in a 3-1 victory over College Hockey America foe Robert Morris Friday night in the Von Braun Center.

Bruce Mulherin (Red Deer, Alb.) got things going for the Boys in Blue on the power play. Center Chris Martini (Calgary) took a cross-ice pass from Jeremy Schreiber (Medicine Hat, Alb.) and fired a shot off the leg pad of Colonial netminder Christian Boucher, but Mulherin was right there to clean up the rebound and put the Chargers on the board in the first period.

It was Martini's turn late in the first, when Schreiber fired a rocket from the point. Mulherin was there to tip the rebound over to Martini, who netted his third of the year on a wide-open net to stretch the lead to 2-0 after the first frame.

Robert Morris center Joel Gasper got his first goal of the season thanks to a turnover by the Chargers on a power play. Logan Bittle intercepted a blue-line pass and raced in alone. Charger netminder Scott Munroe (Moose Jaw, Sask.) made the initial save, but Gasper was right there to put away the rebound and cut the lead to just one after 40 minutes.

Mulherin sealed the deal in the final minute, with Derek Schooley pulling his goaltender in favor of the extra skater, Martini won a faceoff in his own zone, and Mulherin was right there to pick up the puck and race down the ice untouched to score on the empty net for his third goal of the season.

In the win, Scott Munroe made 35 saves and improved his record to 8-5-1. Christian Boucher stopped 43 of 46 shots and fell to 5-12-1.

The win gives the Chargers a 5-2-0 CHA record, and extends their winning streak to three games, equalling their longest of the season.

The two teams meet Saturday in a matnee at 4:05 to conclude the two-game series. Tickets purchased for the UAH game are good for general admission to the Huntsville Havoc minor pro game to follow.
