Chargers picked No. 2 in CHA Preseason Poll...Blais chosen preseason Player of the Year

Antoine Bell, UAH Sports Information

The 1999-2000 season began with the UAH hockey team looking up at Niagara from the No. 2 spot in the College Hoceky America preseason poll. This season, the Chargers will begin the campaign chasing Bemidji State. CHA coaches picked the Beavers as the favorite to win the 2001 title.

The Chargers were followed by a graduation depleted, defending CHA champion Niagara in third place. Air Force and Wayne State were tied for fourth while Findlay was picked sixth.

League coaches also named the CHA preseason All-Conference team. Leading the way was preseason Player of the Year selection Dwayne Blais. Blais, a senior forward from Sudbury, Ontario, finished the '99-2000 season with eight goals and 26 assists in 29 games.

The Chargers, 17-10-4, 12-5-1 in the CHA in '99-2000, are set to open the new season on October 13-14 against Bowling Green State at the Von Braun Center. The series will be special for both head coach Doug Ross and Director of Athletics Jim Harris. Both are BGSU alums. Face off on both nights is 7 p.m.
