Charger Athletics 2007 Banquet

The 2007 UAH Chargers Athletics Banquet was held Wednesday, April 25th at the Von Braun Center, North Hall. The Charger family celebrated another successful year of sports.

Associate Director of Athletics Antoine Bell presided over the event. Among the distinguished list of awards presenters was UAH President Dr. Frank Franz, Director of Athletics Jim Harris, Associate Director of Athletics Michael Altman, Senior Woman Administrator Sheila Ray, Director of Compliance Julie Woltjen, Faculty Athletics Representative Brent Wren and Director of Athletics Promotions Gary Ward.

Dr. Franz was given special recognition in his final visit to the banquet. Also, former Charger supporter Earl Jacoby, who passed away back in the fall, was remembered. It was announced that the annual UAH Cross Country meet will be named the Earl Jacoby Invitational.

Several honors were bestowed during the festive occasion. Below is the complete listing of award winners.

Senior Stephanie Pinto (Softball) was the recipient of the coveted President's Award. The President's Award is the department's most prestigious honor for those athletes who have completed their eligibility and includes a $1,000 scholarship for additional studies at UAH. It is presented to the athlete who has combined outstanding performance in athletics with academic success and volunteer work in the community throughout their athletic career at UAH.

Senior Kristin Fabick (Women's Soccer) received the Scholar-Athlete Award. The Scholar Athlete Award is awarded to the student-athlete with the highest grade point average among all intercollegiate teams at UAH who has completed a minimum of 80 hours of course work at UAH.

Sophomore Erin Zellers (Cross Country/Track and Field) was the recipient of the Pamela Mitchell Memorial Scholarship Award. The award is presented annually to the top two returning female student-athletes who have combined the best elements of mind and body to achieve distinction for her achievements, and promises to be a future leader in her chosen field.

In addition to the departmental superlatives, 102 Chargers were named Scholar-Athletes. Thirteen student-athletes received the Gold Scholar Award. The Gold Award goes to student-athletes with GPA's of 3.8 and above. Twenty-four athletes received the Silver Award for holding GPA's between 3.50 and 3.79, while 65 Chargers earned Bronze Awards for having GPA's between 3.0 and 3.49.
