Parents

Like most moms, I worried about Steve’s social situation almost as much as the academic aspect of going to college. His dad and I thought a fraternity might help him feel more at home at UAH, but we were not pushing the idea.

Our first impression of ATO was a very good one. It occurred at the freshman orientation where we met an outstanding young man, James Kodrowski, who was then president of the Student Government Association. James was a big factor in Steve's decision to pledge ATO and later became Steve's Big Brother.

Steve has always been an excellent student and has had lots of friends, but he never expressed any interest in extracurricular activities (except for sports) or in community service while he was in high school. ATO has certainly changed that! ATO is always busy with service projects and all the guys apparently enjoy these times working together. Steve seems to be involved in just about every fraternity and student government activity that comes along. The fraternity has developed his leadership skills and confidence tremendously. In fact, he was recently elected chapter president and Speaker of the House in SGA.

As a parent, I would certainly recommend Alpha Tau Omega at UAH. I like the fact that my son is associating with other high-achievers and that ATO is highly regarded by the faculty. The young men in the chapter are very loyal to each other and are always willing to help each other. It's nice to know that Steve has a surrogate family on campus that reinforces the values that are important to our family.

Sincerely,

Lyn Cross
