Greek Facts


  • All but 2 US Presidents since 1825 have been Greek.
  • 7 out of 10 people listed in Who’s Who in American are Greek.
  • 43 of the nations 50 largest corporations are under the leadership of a sorority or fraternity.
  • 85% of the Fortune 500 executives are members of fraternities or sororities fraternity member.
  • Since 1920, 85% of all Supreme Court justices have been members of a fraternity or sorority.
  • More than 9 million men and women in the US and Canada are affiliated.
  • 100 of 158 of those who have served on Presidents' Cabinets this century are/were Greek.
  • As undergraduates, Greeks raise approximately $7 million per year for charities.
  • As undergraduates, Greeks give approximately 10 million volunteer hours/year.
  • Greeks have a 10% higher rate of graduation than do non-Greeks.
  • 75% of the members of the U.S. Congress are Greek.
  • Higher education studies have shown that men and women who are Greek:

1. Are more pleased with their college career.
2. Obtain higher grades while attending college.
3. Graduate at Higher levels then non-Greeks.
4. Remain active and loyal after graduation to their university and Greek organization.
5. Greeks have significantly higher incomes then non-Greeks.

  • 82% of females and 77% of males reported they joined Greek organizations for leadership training.
  • 89% of females and 68% of males said they became Greek because they expected opportunities for community service.
  • In answer to questions about Greek organizations and alcohol, 81% of the freshmen who joined male or female fraternities said "it was important that alcohol was not a chapter focus."
  • By contrast, only 11% of male freshmen and 5% of female freshmen said drinking was an important reason to become Greek.
  • The Greek Community provides opportunities to develop 12 of the 18 key factors that employers are looking for in new employees. These 12 factors are: Real-World Experience, Leadership Qualities, Personal Presentation, Attitude, Communication Skills, Computer Skills, Problem Solving, Customer Service Oriented, Proven Track Record, Adaptability-Drive-Initiative, Ability to Learn & Preparation for Interviews.
