Last week some of the brothers and pledges from the Theta Pi chapter helped to work a fall carnival at a local elementary school. There were many activities for the kids, including a ring toss, cake walk, and a moon bounce. I helped supervise the moon bounce and it was a very enjoyable experience. Overall, everyone had a great time, from the children to the brothers working. It was a wonderful opportunity for all of us to help out in our community, and it goes to show that giving my time to the community while hanging out with my brothers is a win-win combination.

We have a squeal night every year for the two sororities on campus. This consists of pledges doing a dance and making gifts for each of the pledge girls of the sororities. This year we decided to make them pillowcases, and this was where the fun began. Me and eight of my pledge brothers came to my house and stayed up nine hours sewing seventy five pillowcases for the girls. I must say in the midst of all our failed attempts we had a lot of fun bonding and goofing off.

- Pledge Patrick Cornell

Tonight, as part of a UAH club event, ATO teamed together to form three six-man dodgeball teams for a small tournament to raise money for a local charity. I have not had this much fun playing anything at UAH yet. As expected, two teams from ATO met each other in the finals for an all-ATO showdown. Even though all three teams could not win, overall it was a big victory for the club (ACE), the charity, ATO, and ATO getting involved with other campus activities.

- Pledge Jarrod Parkes

My son Patrick is a pledge of the Theta Pi chapter this fall. My biggest worry going into his first semester of college was whether he would be able to balance his studying and his social/fraternal activities. My worries were put to rest when i found out about his mandatory study hours on either Sunday or Wednesday nights. He, along with the rest of his pledge brothers, are required to do two hours per week, otherwise they are not allowed to hang out at the house on the weekends. This was such a great idea on the parts of the brothers of this chapter; it keeps the pledges motivated and wanting to study and succeed in school, as well as it encourage them that for their hard work they can have some fun. Thanks to these study nights, Patrick’s grades are the best they have ever been and he is having the best semester of his life. I would personally like to thank the Theta Pi chapter for keeping my son motivated to do well.

The past two weeks have been great for Theta Pi intramurals. Starting off by winning the Outdoor Volleyball Tournament in which both Theta Pi teams meet in the championship game, with the A team prevailing. Coming off the Volleyball victories Theta Pi went into the flag football playoffs with full steam, being the only UA-Huntsville Fraternity to make it in the playoffs, Theta Pi ended up losing in the semi-finals due to costly first round injuries. But all in all a success to previous years. Lastly Theta Pi opened up the 3-on-3 basketball season with a bang, beating our biggest rivals and ending the weekend with a respectable record of 3 wins and 1 lose. RUH RAH!

- Pledge Kenneth Throop

As my first semester of college nears its end, I look back and think what helped me the most throughout this whole experience, and the first thing that comes to my mind is mandatory study hours. The Theta Pi chapter requires their pledges to spend at least 2 hours in an organized study hall once a week. Being a freshman is a difficult time because it is so hard to concentrate on academics when there is the appeal to slack off and just have fun all the time. Thanks to the Theta Pi chapter of the University of Alabama of Huntsville I have stayed focus on what is really important in college, grades.

- Pledge Patrick Chandler

On Saturday, for the big Alabama vs LSU football game, the Salmons graciously invited us to spend the day at their house with our brothers. The afternoon was spent cheering for our team, enjoying great chili, playing some football, and celebrating the Crimson Tide’s 24-15 victory. Thanks again to the Salmons’ for generously hosting!

Sunday, October 18, 2009 I attended and entered my car into the ATO Auto Emporium for Russell Hill Cancer Foundation. I have supported this event every year this Fraternity has held it. I am pleased to see that they have brought this amazing event back after taking a couple of years off. This event brought in many cars and car clubs from all over the Madison County area. The organization of this event was amazing and my car actually won an award this year. This Fraternity does amazing things for the community and we support them every way we can. Keep up the good work guys!
