USLI Building Student Launch Hardware: A How To Workshop

Date: October 12 - 13, 2007
Location: The Bevill Conference Center & Hotel, Room # 280, Huntsville, AL (The University of Alabama in Huntsville Campus)

Each team participating in the workshop should purchase the following:
  • Qty. 1: Public Missile Ltd. 1/4 scale Patriot Missile $98.95 ea available at blastzone.com. The kit should be assembled prior to the workshop. The kit's instructions are straightforward and illustrations are helpful. The teams are encouraged to paint their rockets before the workshop for easy identification. Some modifications to the kit will be made at the workshop. We will show the teams how to install a motor retention system and linear launch lugs.
  • The following epoxy adhesive systems should purchased to help assemble the kit:

These items have been tested and found to be the most effective and easy way to epoxy the hard-to-reach areas on the rocket. These items can be purchased at mcmaster.com.

Workshop Registration Fees:
$200/person (fees include an Alt 15K altimeter, camera, meals, handbook, t-shirts, launch costs, and other supplies, etc.)

We have reduced the registration fee this year since each team is required to purchase the rocket and epoxy prior to the workshop.

Hotel Information:
A block of rooms have been reserved at The Bevill Conference Center & Hotel, 550 Sparkman Drive, Huntsville, AL 35816. Reserve your room by calling toll free (888) 721-9428 and requesting the USLI Rocket Workshop Block. The block of rooms will expire by 9/28/07.

Airline Transportation Information:
We will be posting instructions for building a crate to transport your completed rocket on U.S. carrier airlines. The list of permitted and prohibited items on airlines can be found at the Transportation Safety Administration's website at tsa.gov.
